This play by Mr. Washington is by far different than his usually seductive and tantalizing play, "BITTER APPLES" where the audience is captivated by its beautiful women and equally handsome men. It's no wonder it is a favorite of the Strawberry One Act Festivals produced every year by the Riant Theatre, Inc. at various venues and theatre houses.
Looking for Talika takes a different tempo and compels the audience to pay attention to premise and undercurrents than what is apparently seen. In fact, the writing style of this play can be professionally compared to Tenessee William's A Street Car Named Desire and the Glass Menagerie in the sense that both plays were pregnant with much premise, mystery, and subtext "undercurrents". This type of playwriting is almost always fun to direct because the director can chose to go many directions with it and not lose the integrity of the property.
If one was to read the play as a "read" (which plays are NOT designed for), it will appear boring and "unrelated."
Kim Weston Moran directed this cute piece with artistic simplicity and style.
The lighting and sound as well as the set design all make this production a rare "gem"
Good work for the Riant Theatre!
